How to Find Clarity When Everything Feels Cloudy
A gentle guide for the seasons when nothing feels sharp, certain, or “figure-out-able.”
There are seasons of life when clarity feels impossibly far away — like you’re walking through fog with a flashlight that keeps flickering. You know you’re capable. You know you’re intuitive. But your brain feels full, your emotions feel tangled, and your decisions feel… murky.
If you’re in that state right now, you’re not broken.
You’re not behind.
And you’re definitely not alone.
I’ve lived in that fog myself — more than once.
A personal story of the fog
There was a time, many years ago, where I was in a relationship where I realized I wasn’t sure where it was headed. We had the ‘meet cute’. Things had been going well. It felt like maybe I was on the path to HEA (Happy Ever After)… until it sort of, kind of… didn’t.
I couldn’t put a finger on it. I couldn’t name it. Nothing was wrong, but it also didn’t feel right. That fog was creeping in and I just had the sense that things were not going where I thought they had been heading. But wasn’t feeling certain enough about why to make any decisions about it.
I still remember the literal driveway moment when I paused and noticed that I was in this fog of our relationship. So instead of ‘freezing’ I took an active pause to notice and mark the moment. The moment happened as I got home from somewhere, parked in my driveway and stared out the windshield. Sitting in that liminal moment, I sat with the threads of feelings that had been slowly sticking to me. I remember actually speaking them out loud, trying to name what I feeling. This moment and these words created a guidepost to reference when I recognized those wispy feelings came up again.
And when they did, I was able to make the decision with certainty and clarity.
Why clarity disappears (and it’s not because you’re unmotivated)
An embodied sense of clarity feeds our confidence and our Glow. This isn’t always something we can name, but we can definitely sense that something is there in the fog. Our Glow is a guide we can learn to trust when we start to feel lost or disregulated both literally and energetically. When everything feels cloudy, it’s usually because your system is juggling one or more of these-
1. Sensory & emotional overload
Your nervous system is processing more than your conscious mind realizes. You’re not confused — you’re at capacity.
It becomes literally impossible to handle ‘all the things’ when you don’t have the bandwidth to process them. This leads to a log jam of things trying to claim your scraps of attention, disorienting your inner GPS.
2. Identity friction
You’re outgrowing an old version of yourself, but the new one hasn’t fully formed. This creates temporary distortion in your “inner signal.”
The person you’re becoming wants and needs to handle things in a new way to support your evolution. This creates some friction in your life as you play with new ways of doing things and releasing old ways that won’t work going forward.
3. Too many inputs, not enough integration
You’re gathering ideas, expectations, information, and opinions faster than your system can metabolize them.
This is a different kind of overwhelm, where you have opened up the ‘can of worms’ and new possibilities feel within reach. Having too many choices can lead to indecision or pressure to make the ‘right’ choice without enough experience to know what’s working yet.
4. Disconnection from your inner metrics
You’re evaluating decisions from obligation or logic rather than Glow — your inner clarity blueprint.
When you outsource the authority of your inner knowing to the pressures and realities other people put on you, you start making choices (or not), taking action (or not) to satisfy the voices that are speaking the loudest rather than listening to the one inside you.
Together, these create a kind of internal “static.”
Your intuition is still there. It’s just hard to hear through the noise.
Where this fog shows up in your life (it’s rarely isolated)
Cloudiness rarely stays in just one part of life. It spreads. Quietly. Slowly. Subtly. You may not notice it at first, but that “static” or friction you feel starts to slip into different parts of your life, into the different identities you carry, the different hats you wear.
In your work- You jump between tasks, start new ideas without finishing old ones, or question every decision twice.
In your relationships- You struggle to communicate what you truly need because you aren’t sure what that is yet.
In your habits or routines- Everything feels effortful — even things you normally enjoy.
In your sense of purpose- You feel the nudge that you’re meant for something… but can’t articulate what.
When you don’t have clarity, everything absorbs the fog. Cloaking you in an enveloping feeling that spreads across your whole world. So quietly. slowly. subtly. that you may not even notice it creeping in until you have a moment that makes you notice just how much the landscape has changed.
The good news?
When clarity returns, everything clears at once, too. That’s the magic of addressing the root cause instead of the symptoms.
What’s actually happening: You’re in the early phases of the Glow Journey
This lack of clarity is simply part of the process of transformation and your personal evolution. The Glow Journey is the inner transformation arc we all move through — a series of identity shifts that mirror how real change actually happens. It’s not linear or prescriptive.
Instead, it follows a natural rhythm: first you feel something stirring, then you start noticing patterns, then you test small hypotheses, and eventually you gather insight, integrate it, and step into a clearer version of yourself.
I created this framework to help you understand where you are in your own evolution without judgment or pressure. The identities referenced below — like The Stirred One, The Observer, or The Hypothesizer — aren’t labels. They’re simply friendly markers that help you recognize the phase your inner world is moving through, so you can work with it instead of feeling lost inside it.
Here’s what the early stages look like-
You’re noticing something is “off.” (The Stirred One)
This is the impulse, the itch, the knowing — but without the words.
You’re observing your life from a slight distance. (The Observer)
You haven’t taken action yet, but you’re paying attention.
You’re testing small ideas, but nothing feels definitive. (The Hypothesizer)
This is where clarity begins, but you can’t rush it.
These phases aren’t problems.
They’re signals.
They show your inner system is preparing you for a shift.
How to find clarity right where you are — without overhauling your life
The first thing many of us do when we notice a problem is either A) Ignore it and hope it goes away or B) Rush into problem-solving mode, trying to relieve the pressure we feel, even if it’s the wrong answer or just kicks the can down the road. They may ‘solve’ the problem temporarily, but you can certainly count on it coming back possibly in a louder or more demanding way.
Here are simple, everyday ways to dissolve the fog and reconnect to your Glow-
1. Switch from “What should I do?” to “What feels informative right now?”
Shoulds activate pressure. Information activates curiosity.
Try this the next time you feel stuck- “What in my current situation is giving me data?”
Suddenly, nothing feels like failure — just useful signals.
2. Simplify your inputs for 24 hours
Clarity often comes when the noise reduces, not when the thinking increases.
Try replacing:
A podcast → quiet drive
Scrolling → one slow walk
Advice-seeking → one page in a notebook
This clears enough internal space for your intuition to rise to the surface.
3. Make a “Glow Breadcrumb” list
Write down three tiny things that feel warm, interesting, or relieving right now.
These micro-signals guide you toward clarity long before logic does.
4. Do what you already do — but with different intention
This is magical, because it requires zero extra energy.
Examples-
Your morning coffee becomes “a moment to check in with how my system is starting the day.”
Your commute becomes “a lab for noticing what drains or restores my Glow.”
Your evening routine becomes “data collection on what helps me land in myself again.”
The action doesn’t change — the identity behind it does.
5. Ask one identity-shifting question
A simple question can be the first breadcrumb that shows you where to focus your attention and energy.
“Who is the version of me underneath this fog, and what is she quietly wanting?”
Cloudiness isn’t hiding clarity.
It’s protecting it until you’re resourced enough to receive it.
The turning point you’re looking for
Your Glow is always working as a reflection of your inner world and as your inner guide wanting to show you the way. This phase of the journey helps reveal the steps to move you forward by helping you start to notice the guideposts each step of the way. Clarity doesn’t arrive in a lightning bolt and doesn’t magically pave the way forward.
It arrives as-
one steady breath that replenishes your capacity
one honest sentence that speaks to the heart of it all
one glimmer that orients you
one new insight that makes you feel that ‘aha’
one relieved exhale that grounds you into your confidence
Until suddenly, the fog parts just enough for you to take one small step.
Then another.
Then another.
