How to Decode Your Inner Patterns Without Overthinking

A gentle guide for the seasons when your mind is loud, your intuition is quiet, and everything feels more complicated than it needs to be.

Some seasons of life don’t feel cloudy — they feel busy inside your mind.

You’re thinking…

and thinking about thinking…

and thinking about thinking about thinking.

You may not even notice, but inside your mind and body you’re gathering insights, noticing patterns, collecting emotional data, replaying conversations, analyzing every tiny shift in energy — and still ending up unsure what the heck it all means.

If this feels familiar, you’re likely not stuck. You’re simply in the pattern-decoding phase of your Glow Journey.

And contrary to how it feels, this is a gifted place to be — if you know how to work with it instead of wrestling against it.

A personal story of overthinking to advance the plot

I’ve been someone who is inclined to write things down most of my life. I wouldn’t say I did it well or ‘right’, but the nudge has seemingly always been there even if I didn’t always answer the call. In high school and my early 20’s, they read more like ‘dear diary’ entries, detailing out the facts of the day rather than anything I felt about them.

At the beginning of 2018, I did The Artist’s Way (affiliate link) with an online accountability group. That was the first time I ever heard of stream-of-consciousness journaling, focusing on pouring words out onto the page before my mind could catch up. However, when I specifically journaled to ‘figure things out’ expecting the answers to untangle themselves magically on the page right away, it rarely worked.  Getting to the end of the page, feeling emptied emotionally like there was nothing left to say, that the answers are there someone on the page but not feeling any clarity or certainty.

Today, I more go through streaks where every insight feels important — where I see all the patterns forming, but I can’t translate any of them into clarity. It is like having all the puzzle pieces but no picture on the box. I do this all the time, writing out ‘ahas’ or dots of insight mostly about my business onto plain index cards with the sense that they connect to something bigger, but not having a clue on how they truly all fit together. I try to keep them organized, but mostly it’s the act of pausing to notice these glimmers and write them down that’s the most important so that I can let intuition take over when the time is right.

I’ve discovered that big dreams and old patterns can take a long time to come around. That sitting in the ‘emptiness’ that is created when we capture the swirl on paper is a necessary part of the process. That some ideas and thoughts are actually more like bridges, helping me go further on my journey, but not being the actual answer. And when I force them, force clarity, I run into more resistance or results that are ‘done’ but don’t feel right.

When I give myself the grace to lean into the magic that comes to light in the pauses, letting them collect and marinate, what ends up revealing itself feels like real truth and sparks sustainable action. This is what living a Glow-led life helps us do. It doesn’t mean it’s easy or that we won’t get caught up in the swirl of ‘all the things’. It gives us a framework to refer back to when we notice that life has too much friction and not enough flow, and how to guide ourselves back into the flow with soft precision.

Why you overthink — and why it’s not a flaw

When you catch yourself overthinking, overanalyzing, forcing answers or someone else calls you out on it, it can feel like it’s a flaw. And it can feel that way when it doesn’t seem to be getting you anywhere but deeper into a confusion spiral. However, overthinking is rarely about lack of confidence or discipline. It’s usually about-

1. Your mind trying to protect you from misalignment

When something feels “off,” your system starts gathering data. More thinking = more safety (or so your brain believes).

2. An abundance of intuition but a lack of integration

You’re receiving signals faster than you can metabolize them.

3. An identity tension

You’re trying to make a decision as the person you’ve been, when the next version of you is quietly emerging.

4. Emotional pattern recognition without emotional resolution

You see the pattern, but don’t yet understand the need beneath it. Your brain isn’t malfunctioning — it’s over-functioning.

When you start to view your overthinking through these different lenses, it helps you realize that the path forward isn’t to think less… It’s to think differently.

Where this pattern shows up in your life (and why it matters)

Overthinking doesn’t just happen in your head. It infiltrates your entire life ecosystem.

At work-

You rewrite emails 14 times.
You hesitate to pitch ideas because you’re still mentally editing them.

In relationships-

You analyze tone, timing, wording, energy shifts — not because you’re insecure, but because you’re perceptive.

In decisions-

You wait for the “perfect” clarity signal, then question it the moment it arrives.

In your self-growth-

You know exactly what’s going on… but struggle to translate insight into movement.

In other words…

You’ve mastered awareness.
You just haven’t learned how to decode and apply it yet.

This is exactly where the next layer of your Glow emerges.

What’s actually happening: You’re in the Pattern-Reading phase of the Glow Journey

This is where the Observer becomes the Hypothesizer — where you’re noticing, collecting clues, tracing emotional arcs, watching your inner world shift in real time.

Nothing is wrong. Nothing is “too much.”

You’re essentially running an internal experiment-

  • Why do I feel this way?

  • What does this reaction tell me?

  • What belief is being activated?

  • Is this misalignment or growth?

This is the foundational layer of identity evolution.

The only shift needed? Switch from looping thinking → structured noticing.

And it’s simpler than you think.

How to decode your patterns without spiraling into analysis paralysis

These small, everyday shifts help you make sense of your inner world without burning out your brain.

1. Stop searching for “the answer” and start looking for “the clue”

Answers feel heavy. Clues feel light. This one shift dissolves 60% of overthinking instantly.

Try asking yourself- “What is this moment pointing toward?

Clues move you forward. Answers trap you in perfection.

2. Give your thoughts a landing place — not a courtroom

Journals often become evidence piles instead of reflection spaces. Try reframing your notebook as a field notebook for your inner scientist.

Not judging. Just observing. This transforms your thoughts from threats into data.

3. Translate sensations → insights

Before trying to name the pattern, name the felt sense-

  • Tight?

  • Fuzzy?

  • Charged?

  • Flat?

  • Protective?

  • Hopeful?

Your body often reveals the meaning long before your mind does.

4. Practice “micro-hypotheses”

Instead of asking ❌ Why am I like this? try asking yourself with a sense of curiosity ✔️ What might be happening here?

Then test it gently. This moves you out of rumination and back into relationship with your Glow.

5. Do what you already do — but with observational intention

We’re not adding more to your day. We’re repurposing what’s already there.

Try these-

  • During your morning routine- note your baseline energy signal

  • During conversations- notice where you soften or tense

  • During your commute- track what topics your brain returns to

  • During your downtime- observe where your mind naturally wanders

These tiny moments collect more clarity than an hour-long “figure it out” session.

6. Ask the pattern-decoder’s power question

Using the power of curiosity you can start to unravel what’s really at play. “If this pattern had a message for me, what would it be trying to say?”

This repositions you as collaborator, not critic.

Overthinking collapses. Insight emerges.

Your turning point

All of these little clues are pointing you toward something. You’ve sensed it and kept collecting the dots, the glimmers that are starting to add up and create a picture for you. Eventually, a moment comes and the magic happens when-

  • a pattern clicks

  • a belief loosens

  • a choice feels easier

  • a path becomes visible

Not because you thought harder — but because you finally saw the shape of your inner world clearly. That’s the beginning of self-trust. Sometimes these answers come to you within a day or two. Others may take a month or until a situation repeats itself enough. Some have been building for a lifetime, until things have aligned and the next phase of your journey unlocks.

It’s important to not pressure yourself for clarity or create a story about why it hasn’t happened yet. Staying curious and open to noticing is the key to decoding your inner patterns. And when it ‘clicks’ you will sense your inner knowing bringing it all into focus for you.
