More Flywheel, Less Hamster Wheel

Summer mode is officially activated in our house.

We have wrapped up our school year and I’m feeling a sense of relief that we’ve crossed an energetic finish line.

Navigating everyone’s feelings of doing the work, having it feel like a pressure to stay on top of was wearing me out on multiple facets of my glow.

The learning is still happening over the summer, but I can tackle it with a different identity and reclaim control on the momentum instead of the woo-woo-woo-whirl that makes my energy swirl and flounder.

Not everything that’s whirling you around has a finish line. But we can take an energetic reset and reclaim the way we move forward.

So that things feel more ‘flywheel’, less ‘hamster wheel’.

 

But we can always use more cowbell!

 

We can use any moment to create a pivot, but psychologically we are primed to connect it with the ‘start’ of something-

Start of summer, start of the week, month or year. Even ​the New Moon phase​ is suggested.

It can be the start of no longer tolerating the way things are going.

Anything that pulls us toward initiative action.

My walk streak started at the beginning of the month in order to finish something strong. (And since it's hitting 2,000 days on Thursday...)






Reset and Reclaim

While it feels tempting to jump into something when the feelings are strong, we simply aren’t setting ourselves up for success.

We’re conditioned to react, not respond.

Act from emotional impulse, not intuition.

To do something, anything, to escape the feeling we’re in.

Honestly, how many times has that worked out well for you?

To notice where your capacity is stretched, where friction is fraying and your energy is discombobulated or just dried up.

  • Notice where you’re glowing—and where you’re dimming

  • Feel more grounded, clear, and in tune with yourself

No journaling, no pressure—just a moment of self-trust in the middle of your busy day.

Your Adventure of the Week

As we cruise into the next season, before you start anything new, take a moment and check in to see what you really need. Maybe it’s a dose of play (it is ​Let’s Play May​ after all).

But you won’t know for sure until you pause long enough to ask yourself- What does your glow need? Get the answers your crave in one minute with this simple Glow Check.

After you’ve taken that minute to check in with your glow, take yourself for a walk or sit down with your journal or simply your thoughts and play with asking yourself some reflective questions to help draw out what your heart is wanting you to know.


Get Curious And Ask yourself-

  • What kind of hamster wheel am I on this week?

  • What is something I’m really ready to end?

  • How will relief from that pressure make feel?

  • How prepared do I feel for what’s about to start?

  • What do I truly need to feel like things are in flow rather than WTF?
