Cookie Decorating

Homemade decorated Christmas cookies on a messy table

One holiday activity we took on this year was family cookie decorating. We SO appreciated Meme making all of the cookies and icing for everyone. It made it a much more chill and fun time by letting the kids focus on the part of the experience they love the most. I really enjoyed relaxing into the moment and having fun playing with creating my vision come to life with icing and sprinkles.

Sometimes we try to pack too much into a moment so this worked out really well for us (though Meme might need a day or two to recover or maybe smaller cookie cutters).

Whenever it comes to family and holiday traditions, whether ones that have been a long-honored streak or ones that are finding their footing, it’s important to pause and notice what’s truly the most important about the moment and experience. When we do things without wondering if they are still serving their purpose, we miss out on changes we can make to make them more fulfilling and enduring for everyone.

Next year won’t look the exact same, and that’s not the point. Figuring out what kind of get together creates a warm lasting memory matters more, so it’s okay to make adjustments as we go.
